GOOD NEWS FOR ALL OUR PATRONS

February 16th, 2010

Since adding the last libraries to the KOHA internet we now have 628,000 items available for our patrons.  I just think that is amazing.  When I began as the librarian here in October 1, 1981 our library consisted of around 7000 items.  Through interlibrary loan we might be able to obtain something we didn’t have on hand but it involved filling out a form and sending that form to another library through the mail system and then hoping they received it and would send the request back to you.  What a hassle in many ways.  Now we get on line and post the hold on something and most of the time the article is here within a few days.  Kansas libraries just keep getting better and better.

Learning Experiences

February 3rd, 2010

Boy what a week!  I have had to learn to do Flickr and to put pictures on our website and my blog.  It has been a good experience I guess.  So you can notice that I have at least two pictures on the website now that you can click on and see.  I need to get my other two on here somehow. We’ll give it a try and see if I can do it.  The four pictures I have taken are of our extra room for the most part with the exception of our breaker box.  I took a picture of it to show you how we disguised our breaker box.

23 Things Kansas Experience

January 12th, 2010

Today I set up a blog at kaylassiter@wordpress.com.   You can follow along with this not only as I learn to do things but to see what is new here at the library and with me in general.

TO SEARCH THE NExpress CATALOG

January 5th, 2010

They have changed our web page so that those of you who are used to seeing the NExpress rectangle to click on and give your information will see that it is missing.  I guess you are supposed to check the search the catalog portion on the upper right hand portion of the page above the calendar.  Try that and see if that works.

The address of the catalog is:  catalog.nexpresslibrary.org

Making a List But Not Checking it Twice

December 21st, 2009

It is the time of the year where we think about New Year’s Resolutions.  What are you resolving to do this next year?  Hopefully you are making a list of things that you want or need to read this coming year.  Several years ago at a summer reading program workshop that we attended in February of that year, the guest speaker suggested we keep a list of the titles we read through the year.  Well, many years later, I’m still doing that.  This year I’m making a list of things I want to read and see how many I actually get read.  There are so many great books out there to read and so little time as the saying goes.

THE DELAWARE TOWNSHIP TAKING PART IN A TRIAL ON ILL

October 6th, 2009

We were thrilled to be selected as one of the Kansas Library taking part in a pilot program for loaning books to other states and being able to receive them as well.  The other states taking part in this pilot program are: Connecticut, New Jersey, Wisconsin and parts of Canada.  If this program works well it will certainly open many doors to our patrons for material that has otherwise been out of reach for us.  This will be extremely helpful for people doing research on various subjects.
